Ferry van der Nat’s career knows many twists and turns: starting out as a chef, Ferry later made a successful jump into fashion business as professional make-up artist and stylist. His work includes directional fashion styling for magazines like L'officiel or L'uomo Vogue or internationally renowned fashion brands such as Viktor & Rolf.
His work got honoured with the Icon Homme Award by the Dutch fashion foundation. Apart from creating make-up design concepts, Ferry also gained reputation for his styling skills and collection vintage treasures. His true passion includes a collection of vintage treasures. His home base Amsterdam is close to his heart, however he has a love & hate relationship with the city:
I love it because it is very safe and protected - almost village like and at the same time it has quite a city vibe. But nevertheless there seems a very low taste level in all different kind of aspects, such as the way how people dress up - which is hard to draw any inspiration from. Still, Amsterdam has changed enormously in a positive way, influenced by international visitors and tourists.
By fashion styling he wants to invite the viewer to escape the chaos and drama of real life: “Fashion can be used as a way to escape the ugliness in life and the chaos in your head”. However he finds fashion not that exclusive anymore. It is an era where identity is in high order, but identity eventually becomes uniform. With his shop K A B I N E T at Hôtel Droog he hopes to get people more involved in the beauty and quality of fashion again.
